Support Staff / Assistant Job Description
If your goal in life is to make the world a better place through education, this is your chance to join an organization who shares your dream! Yucca Learning has full time and part time positions open for support staff members of the team to serve as assistant guides.
A Montessori Assistant's primary duties are to maintain the classroom environment and to assist the lead teacher or guide.
Candidates must have experience working with young children and be committed to working in a diverse environment.
Assistance to Lead Teacher(s)/Guide(s)
• Under the direction of the Guide, help establish a classroom culture of calm, productive work.
Supervise the classroom when necessary and work with individual children or small groups of children as directed by the guide.
• Work with the guide to establish routines and rituals around transition times and non-classroom times such as lunch, recess and nap.
• Provide behavioral guidance to children in a manner that is clear and respectful.
• Assist children in meeting their physical needs including escorting children to the bathroom, helping find clean clothes and assist with changing clothes as needed.
• Observe the activities of the students and take the time to communicate observations to the guides.
• Be a model to children of integrity, curiosity, responsibility, creativity, and respect for all persons.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday
School Day staff hours:
Part time: 7: 45 a.m. - noon
Part time: noon - 5 p.m.
Full time: 7:45 a.m. - 3:45 a.m.
Expectation to work outside of these hours if needed to fulfill responsibilities
Desired Skills and Experience:
Montessori work experience a plus
Understanding of the social and emotional needs of children
An entrepreneurial spirit and excitement about being a part of a team engaged in an innovative learning model
Flexible and energetic on the job with the ability to juggle multiple duties
Excellent communication and people skills
Previous teaching/assistant teaching in an early childhood program OR relevant related experience is encouraged
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education OR relevant field of study (preferred)
Must pass a criminal background check
CPR/First Aid Certification (a plus OR must complete before start date; Yucca Learning will cover costs)
Starting Compensation Range:
$13.00 - 15.00/hour dependent upon experience and background qualifications
